Default Bluetooth comp w/BMW

Please Login to Remove!

After looking at too many sites explaining why the Bluetooth technology on Blackberry 7290 will not work in BMW's, I came across something which seems to indicate that by downloading the latest Blackberry upgrade 4.0.2, this will "patch" this problem and now allow full integration with the BMW autos.
Can anyone verify this?

Well, sort of. With 4.0.2, the voice dial works just fine. The phonebook needs to be manually sent over each time you start the car. So other than the phonebook, which is kind of important, it "works".

Damn.. this *may* be one of the things that keeps me from a BB 7250. I have a 2006 BMW 650i on order.

I'm a Treo 650 user and am getting a bit tired of the reboots. I have a new one enroute, but if it acts the same... I'm switching.

Tell me this...

Can I manually build the address book in the BMW? Will it at least allow me to accept an incoming call via Bluetooth? can I dial freely and have the car take over?

Thanks!

I have a 5er so I cannot guarantee my answer for your upcoming awesome 650i

You cannot reliably build up the address book in the BMW. I once managed to get the contacts of a Treo 650 in the BMW, it lasted for two weeks up to the moment I tried again, I was never able of repeating it.

But, wxoforecasters tells us that you can send the phonebook to the car. I would really like to understand how that works?

Back to the BMW

Once connected you can do everything the Bluetooth function is able of except for the phonebook transfer. Dialing from the car works with the controller and voice commands. Picking up a call with the controller/steer buttons work. Speed dialing from the BB and the car takes over.....

And the battery of my BB remains well during bluetooth operation in the car.
Have fun with your 650i !!

Default My BB7290 Doesn't work with my BMW

I have a1997 750iL with a BMW ULF. Cannot get it to maintain a connections see the url below from BlackBerry

BMW Problem

Says:

"Problem
When you connect any of the BlackBerry devices listed above to the Motorola Bluetooth-enabled car kit (factory installed with the BMW 2005 and 2006 Sedan), the device cannot maintain a stable connection using auto-discovery or the Connect command on the device. The device is able to pair with the car kit, but it only manages to connect briefly before losing the connection.

Cause
Implementation issues/differences with the Bluetooth car kit prevent it from functioning properly with Bluetooth-enabled BlackBerry devices.

Resolution
Install BlackBerry Handheld Software version 4.0.2 or later."

Its accurate for me - my doesn't work just the way they describe. Any ideas on where I can download 4.0.2 - have been able to find 4.0 but not 4.0.2 Thanks

As far as I know most BB's have Bluetooth vesion 1.X. Most new cars have version 2.X. Upgrading the OS will not help. It is a hardware driven problem.

"Will the Bluebooth feature of the BMW 650i be compatible with the 7100g?"

There's quite a lot on BMW's and BB compatability in the Bluetooth forum e.g. see:

New BMW Bluetooth

You will only have limited functionality using an older BB in a BMW although the 8700 apparently does everything you'd expect. Compatability may increase with OS 4.1 on the 7100 (whenever that's released) as it should add further bluetooth functionality.

Another forum with quite a lot of info on BMW Bluetooth compatability is

So, OS 4.1 is not available yet?

OS 4.1 is on the 8700 and 7100i but hasn't yet been released for older models.

At a minimum, the 7100g should work with the Bluetooth handsfree functionality in the 650i. I've had a 7100g work in both a 2005 545 and a 2005 X3, and the Bluetooth kit in the 6-series shouldn't be functionally different. Address book sync should arrive with 4.1 for the 7100, whenever that is.

will the SIM card in the 7100g (cingular) convert into the Motorola RAZR v3? Since the RAZR is compatible, then I can use that in the car--provided the address book converts from the blackberry via the SIM.

In my experience, the 4.1 OS upgrade for the 7100 (see other posts) supports the 2006 BMW models - I can see my address book in the Communications section of iDrive (and see missed calls, make / answer calls etc).

excellent. So, my question is - can I get the 4.1 OS upgrade on the 7100g; and if so, where do I get it?

(late update)

I bought a Verizon 7130e and it works extremely well with my 2006 650i. Where my Treo 650 would not display signal strength and would only transfer the favorites, the BB 7130e transfers all phone numbers and the signal strength is displayed as it should be, so BT functionality is better on the BB vs. the Treo.
