I believe the standard AIM app uses text messages for each message.

I recommend Beejive : instant messaging, just about anywhere

Question AIM on blackberry 8310

I have a Blackberry 8310 and am unable to get AIM. The icon didn't even come with my phone. I have only an unlimted SMS package w/ my phone, no data package... my dad isn't that nice. Is there any way I can still get an AIM program which only uses SMS???? Someone please help!

The OZ Messenger uses almost strictly SMS. It still uses data to login and check status, so you'd get charged pay per use for that. Shouldn't be too much though.

If you go to the MEdiaNet homepage, under 'Messaging" you'll see the download link. Again, you will get charged pay per use data (1 cent per kb) for downloading the actual program.
