what exactly does EDGE mean? i've been here for a while but still can't figure it out, and how about GPRS?

EDGE is your data connection. GPRS is an older standard for data that (in my opinion) is painfully show. You can find out all the deep technical details on Wikipedia

Also EDGE is 2.5G (max 384 kbps) and GPRS is 2G (max 48 kbps).
