Default Internet/WAP connection problem

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a Blackberry Pearl 8120 on Orange about a month ago and it's great. The best phone I've ever had. However, I have a few questions about the Internet connections.

When using the Facebook program, I can open the program and do everything within it with just a mobile connection (I.E. No Wi-Fi) but when I try to 'Connect to mobile site' I get the error below. Why can't I go to the mobile site using the Blackberry browser using my BIS? Why must I use Wi-Fi?

"This is a Wi-Fi service. Please ensure your device has an active Wi-Fi connection and try again."

Is there a setting that is incorrect on the BlackBerry or is this just the case with the Facebook program?

I bought the BlackBerry as a refurb. It's in perfect condition and it has v4.3.0.79 software on it. Is this up-to-date?

My other question... I have only had an EDGE connection once. That was when I was in a hotel and there was Wi-Fi. I don't understand that. My friend get's EDGE all the time on his non-Wi-Fi Curve on O2.

Thanks,
Ryan

If you have your connection set to wifi preferred then when you are going to the mobile site it is trying to go there via the wi fi connection. Set your connection to internet browser and see if that works.

Orange's EDGE connection may not be as good as o2's where you live. My EDGE is never constant it is always alternating between EDGE/GPRS.

Here is Orange's software downloads page.

The latest update for the 8120 from Orange is 4.3.0.178.

nich:

you need to get a data plan for your BB...without one you can't use the standard internet plan for regular cell phones...

Cheers!
