Default Email messages in "Messages" folder

Please Login to Remove!

I've searched ad nauseam and I don't think a post specifically addresses my question. Apologies in advance if it does.

I use BIS and gmail. I now have three icons - one for gmail, one for both SMS and MMS, and the "messages" icon.

How do I turn off messages in my "messages" icon that I've received an email? (whenever I receive an email I have unread notifications in both my gmail and messages icon).

This is annoying me very much. I know I can hide the "messages" icon but I would rather not take up unnecessary space.

Thanks.

The messages folder is a catch all, everything goes there. Just scroll to the gmail icon > menu > hide if you want to hide it. PIN messages and Email still go to that folder regardless. The useless folder would be the gmail folder itself.

Not a problem. I know it doesnt really give you what you wanted, but it does serve the same purpose.

Would I be correct to assume that my blackberry essentially stores the same email twice, even if I don't see the gmail icon?

Also remember if you delete mail in one folder, it is gone from all folders.

Not sure if this will answer your question but if you go to the messages icon and go to options. Go to general options and you should see an option in there stating SMS and E-mail Inboxes and there are a couple options in there. If you select the "separate" option, it will separate all the inboxes and place the messages within their respective folders (or icons as you said)

I wouldn't even bother with the gmail app. I don't use it, and still get my gmail just fine. I keep my email and SMS/MMS separate and have no problems.

having a separate GMail Icon only makes sense if you want for instance separate emails according to your Internet provider or if you are using both BES and BIS with gmail.

It's not really stored twice. There are really just two places to view it.

This tip to separate worked great! Now though...when I go to my messages icon it takes me to "general options" and I can't seem to get out of it! Help!

Welcome to the forums.

Not sure what model you have as it is not listed in your profile.

For track wheel models, press the escape key located under the trackwheel

For trackball models press the escape key located to the right of the trackball.

If all else fails, pull the battery
