Default Nextel 7520 + GPS + Mapquest = perfect GPS solution

Please Login to Remove!

Starting September 1st Mapquest & Nextel will enable the ultimate GPS solution for the 7520. Features include - * Automatically identify your location via mapquest, Turn by turn directions, Points of Intrest, Address Book, & the ability to share your location with others via text message or private URL. Check out the details at...

http://findme.mapquest.com/

The service is free essentially, with a data plan.

Now only if RIM would make a blackberry with a Media player, SD card slot, camera, and a proper address book security option, we would have the uber device!

Speaking of which, does anyone know anything about the Blackberry Electron?

Wirelessly posted (your electric?: BlackBerry7520/4.0.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/5.0.3.3 UP.Link/5.1.2.12)

Cool would like to try the service. And "security option" went out the door with SD slot and Camera.

Would this be included in my $44.99/mo Blackberry data plan - or do I have to pay extra a month for this service?

Look at the FAQ's, http://findme.mapquest.com there is no additional charge. You have to have the data plan with all blackberry's. The only problem I see is if you get the inferior data plan with limited data downloads; you might exceed your data limit.

Comparatively, if you were to get TeleNav they want an additional $10 + data plan. With Mapquest all you need is the data plan which we already have.

Odd... I'm on the phone w/ Nextel right now, and they're confirming the pricing. For a Blackberry w/ unlimited data, you'd pay $3.99/month.

I would think it would be free for Blackberry users because of the data plans we are handcuffed to. The other phones don't have to have a data plan so I can see why they want data usage money.

Well yesterday they told me it was free today they don't have a clue and directed me to mapquest support. I emailed them and currently waiting on a response.

That would suck that the majority of us pay $50/month for unlimited data and they still want another $4 for this when they give it away for free on the web.

Seems like we are getting nickel and dimed to death!

Well it looks like I was wrong. They want $3.99 a month to be billed through your Nextel bill.

Yes, you pay for unlimited data. And you're more than welcome to Mapquest from every intersection along your route for free.

However, the Mapquest service integrates w/ GPS and can update others w/ your location (great for keeping track of your road crews.) Do you really expect them to offer that technology free of charge? We're talkin' a LOT more than simple data throughput, here.

It "SEEMS" cool, but I have one important question: Are the turn by turn directions real-time? I ask this because it seems like MapQuest just finds your location and gives you a "list" of turns you should make based on your location (based on looking at the demo where they had the turn by turn directions--NOTICE the dreaded scroll bar!!)....just like you would type in an address on the web. Then there is no mention of voice assistance.......I'm sticking with my Telenav

Correct. There are no voice prompts. That's why Telenav still costs $10.
