Hello, I have a quick question. I want to upgrade my 8310 to the 4.5 OS, but I am on BES and BIS, and heard that an OS upgrade requires the device be reactivated on the BES. It is my blackberry, and my company does not try and control it at all, so they won't care. The problem is, I do not know how to re-activate it.

Is the reactivation going to be necessary?

If so, can I do that myself at home, or does it involve being at work with my BES admin/IT Guy?

If not, how do I do it?

Thanks - I really want to give the 4.5 OS a shot but can't afford to be off the BES for a few days until I get back to my office. My IT guy just did the BES activation, and I didn't pay attention to how he did it.

A little further research led me to realize that I will need to reactivate the BB on the BES. Is there anyway to do that without the BES admin? I do not use desktop manager at my office, and haven't synced it with my desktop manager at home in months.

If you upgrade the OS on a BES activated device you will need to complete another Enterprise Activation. Will need your BES Admin for that.

Actually, this is not entirely true.
I also had the same issue and also read all the replies that said that i will need my BES admin to get reactivated.
But one reply mentioned something about the DM at work.
So when i got to work - i plugged my 8830 into my work machine and fired up the DM. The Enterprise Activation started up on its own and went through fine without me setting the password or doing anything at all.
So, if you have a DM at work that is able to connect to your BES - give that a try...

I have upgradeds OS's several times on my BB while I'm on BES. I own my BB and each time I upgrade, I just have to call my IT dept and get a new password and then it takes about 10 minutes to reactivate. I don't have the option to do as Slavka.

Yeah, I don't have desktop manager at work either. In my division of the company most people just use windows mobile, so they don't push desktop manager out to our computers. I talked to my BES admin and he is going to get me a password on Monday. Thanks for the help guys.

Glad you found a solution...I was going to chime in to say that I accidentally reloaded my OS and had to be reactivated. I was worried I would get in trouble but when I told the BES Admin. I got kicked out he acted like it wasn't a big deal at all. So he just gave me a password and I was back on within 30 minutes of the call.

How can you accidently reload the OS??


It does depend on your admin. If one of my users called me to get a new password, I'd either ask them to send the device in, or I would check to see if the device or OS changed after activation, and recall the device if it did.
