When dialing numbers on my 8800 I am now getting "call failed" about 4 out of 5 times. Sometimes I am able to make a call, but not always. The device seems to wake up each time I push any button and starts to send and receive. While this never used to be an issue, now this seems to block me from being able to make a call. I can receive incoming calls without a problem. This is a new problem.

I've tried resetting by taking out the battery. I've given it to my help desk who claims there is not problem. But I can tell you I am unable to make outgoing calls on a consistent basis and it is very frustrating. Any one have advice?

Your BB is actually a radio and is susceptible to quality of signal. If this is happening in areas you previously had no problems them it may in fact be the device. The receiver sensitivity may be low due to a whole myriad of causes and a weak signal that worked before may not work now. Also the cost for repair may be higher than a new one so consider that before repairing. I would see if it is still in warrantee and if so have it replaced. Your help desk may not fully understand these issues as they normally deal with software problems.

Call your carrier. I had that issue and it had to do with the phone integrating with the tower. For verizon i was told to dial *288 and then option 2 and it seemed to resolve it. You have ATT so that probably is not the solution but I am sure that there is something similar.

Thanks to you for your responses. I did call AT&T. They felt that my problems were due to the fact that my Bberry is "old," which I guess it is in gadget years. I got it in 2006. They were happy to tell me I'm eligible for an upgrade! I'll have to work it through my IT department. In the meantime they tell me to take out the battery and reset when it happens. This thing is my lifeline so I'm going to have to do some begging on Monday!

I support 350+ BB's and I've seen a small rash (about 5) of call failed issues where all outbound calls are failing until the battery is removed and replaced.
