Question Dream BB

Please Login to Remove!

With the bold, thunder and javelin in the works or about to be released, I thought it would be nice to read about forum members "Dream BB".
As far as I am concerned it would be as follows:

- form factor of curve/bold with a keyboard please
- 4 Mega pixel camera and improved camera functions
- equalizer function
- support for 32GB microSD card
- battery life: 8 hours of talk time, 36 hours of audio playback and up to 9.5 hours of video playback (like sony)
- all the nice BB email features that exist so far

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry 9000 4.6.0.67)

Well the first is the javelin/bold

Javelin has a 3.2

Equilizer exists in OS 4.5+

OS 4.5 can hold up to 16gb currently. Since those aren't even out, 32gbs are just a pipe dream at the moment.

Battery life is probably very high, I would say 5 to 6 talk time, the video playback is just as battery intensive as talk time. Audio they can do 2-3 times as much as talk, so 10-12 hours easily possible. Extended life batteries can easily increase this by 50 to 100%.

Looks like the Javelin might be the device for you, with the only real lacking feature being 3.2mp vs 4.0mp camera.

Why do you need 4mp in a cell phone camera? The Megapixel Myth

Is it not the point for a smartphone: multiple usage with one tool. I want to be able to travel without my digital camera.
The 2MP in the 8120 is OK but does not take very clear pictures unles you are in optimal lighting conditions. I guess it may only be a question of improving the onboard 2 MP one.

Lighting has nothing to do with megapixels. You are right in improving the 2mp camera, I have had phones with VGA cameras take better pictures than those with 2mp cameras.

I agree but with optimal lighting conditions, 1MP picture will look better than 2MP with poor lighting.

Anyway, your dream BB?

I would like to see as slider BB, I had a Samsung SGH T629 and loved it. Has a good size screen and keyboard slides in to make it a little smaller when not in use.

If you're going to dream, I'd like to see a camera as good as my Canon Elph - Fast and handy for stills - video good enough that stuff I shot went to ABC-TV - great battery life - sweet little optically stabilized optical zoom lens.

The BB's need better optics and/or imaging sensors. The resolution isn't currently the limiting factor. I have an NTSC video camera -- 720x480 or roughly 0.3MP and it takes better stills due to much better optics.

People fixate way too much on a single spec.

Better light sensitivity comes with a better sensor -- not with higher resolution.
