Default Why can't we get better ToDos app?

Please Login to Remove!

First off, I've been using the BB (7290) for about 2 years, and with PocketDay and a few other addons, I'm almost ready to dump my PocketPC EXCEPT for 2 real failings:

1. No eReader support - I'm a huge ebook fan. Why in the world do they have a reader for something like Symbian, but no reader for Blackberry??!?!?

2. I'm a huge ToDo guy - I use the ToDo functionality in my PocketPC all the time. The current ToDo app on the BB is a sad joke (unless I'm missing something). I've tried the couple of addons that Handango lists as replacement ToDo apps, and they are lamer than the built in app. What do you all use to track ToDo's with your BB?

Regarding ToDos: people either are Todo fanatics (like you are) or never use them at all. I don't even load the Tasks piece onto my BB (that's how little I use it). This comes up once in a while - but I think a lot of people don't use the Task function, so RIM doesn't think it is a major priority to improve....

I'd like an eBook reader too. Some have been written (I think I found one on Handango) but it is missing.

Thanks for the answer. Tasks management isn't rocket science - I just cant believe that a device this sophiticated cant get an ebook reader and a decent task management app.

I second the notion for an improved task manager app. I don't want to always add tasks into my calendar just to have decent functionality, because, well, that's what a task manager is for. I too have loaded BBToday and Pocket Day to try to help the situation, but they are just overkill for what I need. Plus, I don't like apps overriding the home screen ribbon.

If you find anything in your travels let us know.

NJBlackBerry, I'm surprised that's true. I'm not doubting you or anything, I just though people used tasks as much as I do...and apparently Damager. Do you just file all of your tasks as appointments as I mentioned above? Or do you just not enter tasks at all?

Ominx - I didn't see you comment on tasks as appts. How do you do that?

All I meant was I sometimes enter my tasks as appointments in the calendar app. For example...call mom would be entered as an appointment for say 2pm. I really don't like to use the calendar for simple tasks though, it gets too crowded.

But I did find a program over at hangango that might be worth checking out. It's called RemindMe(http://www.handango.com/PlatformProd...1416&R=171416). There isn't a trial so I'm a bit weary, but there's a review over at blackberrycool.com. (http://www.blackberrycool.com/2005/08/15/00756/)

I've seen that one - my only concern is whether it uses the builtin tasks database - I want to enter things once only. I sure wish it had a trial.

I think it sucks to have to pay to add functionality that should be included in the RIM OS. I am a 'task manager' person too and the support for this on the BB is definitely lacking.

I don't even mind paying for it, but it blows me away that we have 25 card games for the BB but no ebook reader or reasonable task manager.

There is an interesting blog on using the built in task mgmt here:

By the way, there is a good ebook reader available for the blackberry. Only problem is the format but since most of my books are published in multiformat I just downloaded the proper one from FictionWise. Check it out at Mobipocket Reader Beta

I looked at it, and emailed with the support team. I have 3 issues:

1. No trial. I'm willing to buy something for $3-$4 on faith, but not $20.
2. Not integration with built in Tasks, therefore no synching with Outlook.
3. Thin functionality - it DOES add repeating ability, but I don't think you can hide completed items, and there is no concept of a recurring item.

Default Task Management Apps

I'm with several others on this thread. I have to keep my Pocket PC until task management gets better. I've had my BlackBerry 7520 for three weeks now, but the built in task manager cannot keep up with even daily tasks that I put in, let alone more complicated ones - it loses them. PocketDay has potential but I take it is dependent on the BlackBerry task manager to do the behind the scenes stuff. I also enjoy reading e-books which I still need Pocket PC for. I'm delighted however with the ability to take care of e-mail on the go. This alone has saved an enormous amount of evening time for me. I look forward to improvements in these forementioned areas.

I hope to one day learn how to use my PIN address, etc.

All,

THere are limitations in the developer tools for Tasks otherwise PocketDay would do it all. I believe that in the fall a new BB handheld os version will change things and I guarantee that PocketDay will do everything you want in a Task manager.

I would have to say as an avid user of the PocketDay application that I'll take your word for it, Mark. You haven't let me down so far!! Thanks, again...

That would be awesome, and provide just ANOTHER reason to buy PocketDay Pro!
