Default Unlocked 8800 for FIDO SMS PROBLEM

Please Login to Remove!

I recently got an unlocked BB 8830,

My problem is this, I got the phone unlocked at a local shop, my phone works great. Good sound very happy with it. I cant use voice dailing, nothing happens when I click on it. Also my sms messaging doesnt work, i can receive txt messages fine, however when i try to send i get the error.....

Uncaught exception: java.lang.IligalArgumentException

my GPS displays only a gray screen and it seems like its constantly searching for a satellite.....

Can anyone help I'm a newbie to BB's but i like the unit alot, it seems very cool if i could only send txt messages with that nice keyboard.

BTW I know i have a lot of problems listed here, if someone could please address the messages,, this is the one that bothers me most!!!

THANKS IN ADVANCE>

You won't be able to use the GPS function on the phone as FIDO doesn't offer GPS. Check your SMS number. Call FIDO for the number to use when sending.

As for the other problems you are having, sounds like you need to wipe your handheld and install the latest OS.

Hope this helps.

BTW...were you able to get onto the Blackberry Connect plan before they stopped setting up new accounts for it?

Correct me if im wrong, but did u say you are using an 8830 on Fido?? That is a bell or Telus phone (cdma) where the gsm portion DOES MOT work in North America. Do u mean 8820??

8800....I think i put 8830 in the body of my question.....still trying the wipe someone suggested to me that the "unlocking" of my phone could have caused these problems and that they cannot be fixed with software upgrades...basically i've messed my phone up for good, is this possible??
