Red face Blackberry Newbie - A Few Questions

Please Login to Remove!

Hi guys

I purchased a new BB 7290 from eBay a few days ago and am having some problems, wondering if you guys can lend a hand.

First of all the BB is on o2 UK and I am thinking getting it unlocked (so I can use it on any network). I've tried locally but none of the retailers I've asked unlock them and I've come across two options online, bongowireless (have to send the device) and steve007.tk (much cheaper and sends us a cable). Has anyone else come across any other options?

The other thing is that I cannot email or browse the net from the phone. This is because o2 only have this service available on contract and I do not want to go on one. I would rather stay with my current network T-Mobile and upgrade (if need be) as they provide the service also.

When I try to email it says 'No message services configured. You will only be able to Save Draft'. I read a previous thread and entered a few details and it doesnt work.

Also I do not have a browser, anyone know why this is?

The reason why I got the phone and have these facilities available is so that I can update my blog and recieve email amongst other things. So any input guys?

getting an O2 blackberry unlocked is VERY hard (if even possible), from what i remember with the 7100x handhelds. to get the email and browser, you must subscribe to a BlackBerry Data Plan. without those, don't expect either to work.

Nerver used steve007 must be new so I can't help there but I have used Bongo and there unlocking works to a tee, Voice/Data/PIN. It use to be Bongo as the only one unlocking BlackBerry with your find of steve007.tk that makes two so your search is over, there are no others!

Regardless you need a BlackBerry data contract which ever carrier you use but if your content and have more flexibility with TMo you'll have to wait until you get the device unlocked

You need a BlackBerry Data Package added to your account for web and email, no there is no way around this or other options.

Also I do not have a browser, anyone know why this is?

How do I erase all messages at once instead of one at a time?

Blackberry03, I cant see that option on the BB maybe RIM forgot to add that feature.

Thanks guys for replying. I was thinking that maybe I dont have the broswer installed on my BB that is why I dont have it but it is now clear that I need a Data Plan with whichever networ I go for. I assume that will automatically appear when I sign up?

I'm thinking of going with steve007.tk to get it unlocked. Once again, thanks, I am sure I will stick around and contribute

Could you not install a different browser and email client and use GPRS that way without a BB specific data plan?
