Default Phone fell out of holster - need advice

Please Login to Remove!

I have an AT&T 8820, with the AT&T holster. Today while walking down my driveway, it popped out, gouging up the front of my phone quite nicely. I'm kinda annoyed - does anyone have a bright idea to get AT&T to pay for it? Worth a shot? I'm going to run by the store later today.

I don't believe so. If anything were to "happen" to the phone functionality they would claim abuse due to the damage. If you are within your 30 days they might exchange if you claimed you were unhappy with the model but I really don't think so. There are many places that sell the entire housing or just the lens cover if that is what is damaged. If it's just the top of the sides by a gel skin and it should hide it quite nicely and you will soon forget about it.

Good Luck!

I got one of thoes AT&T holsters, it came in the box with the BB. I use it when I play golf to keep the BB from getting damaged from being placed in the glove compartment of the cart. I have a belt clip that keeps the BB very secure for every day use.
Hope your BB still functions properly.
Good Luck with fighting AT&T.

The Berry still works fine, just a few annoying marks (like on some keys so it shines through). I use the plastic holster, but I'm just a little annoyed that AT&T's product did not hold onto their phone.

that sucks, mine fell out of the pouch that came with my pearl, it actually flew out while it was in my hand, and i felt sad.

you can tell the store that the trackball stopped working but you hit it a few times so now it is just fussy.

What were the circumstances of the drop? If, under normal use, the case failed to properly do what it was designed to do (ONLY if the holster is deemed flawed or faulty) can AT&T be responsible for the damage. Otherwise, I would recommend a silicone case and a Best Skins Ever Home Page to minimize the damage. The BSE covers scratches well while it does an incredible job of protecting against new ones.

Then they might see the damage and deem it the reason the trackball works intermittently.

That really is designed to be a pocket sleeve IMO. Though it comes with a sad excuse for a belt clip, I wouldn't use it on my belt without a way to secure the device from the top. i.e. you bend over at the hip and.... Plop!

I would however suck it up. It wasn't ATT's fault that you decided to use their lousy holster and dropped it.

If the case failed (i.e. came apart) or something you might have a leg to stand on. However, it sounds like you're trying to just get them to pay for cosmetic damage due to your mistake. This is partially why insurance had not been available on smartphones until recently with at&t.

I've used RIM's holsters for years on at least 6 different models and have never had a BB fall out of its holster. I have dropped my BB but for preventing cosmetic scratches they have always had Invisible Shields on them (they don't however offer any impact protection).

If scratches bother you then it's up to you to protect your device -- not at&t. Take appropriate preventative measures and responsibility for your own actions & decisions. You can try taking this up with at&t but they don't cover this type of damage and consider it to be abuse as mentioned above.

Ditto Takeshi, ditto Jlink38.

Funny but once you drop it and get that first 'ding', you are kind of more careful not to do it again. Though it is bound to happen again. That is why duct tape my Curve to myself when I am consuming beverages of the non H2O nature.
Invest in a better cover/holster. Seidio... for one... and there are others... makes a decent holster. Check out the invisible shield too...
You inve$ted in your device so inve$t in $ufficiently protecting it.

Just my 2 cents....Ok.... "it's 5 o'clock somewhere..."

That Seidio rubberized hard case really is a great thing to have. It protects the phone really well, plus I think it looks pretty good and makes the phone easier to hang on to = less slips onto the pavement. The plastic belt holster that is made to go with the hard case is great too. Seidio has done a REALLY nice job with these products.

Originally I had the Blackberry branded belt pouch with the magnetic flap, but after my phone fell out of it twice and getting scratched up I was planning on getting a new one. Then the cheap clip on it broke any way. I should have read the reviews on Amazon.com before I bought the damn thing.

I've only had my Pearl for a week, but bought the Otterbox Defender for it and I love it. My previous phone was an i580 on Nextel, so I was looking for Nextel-equivalent durability for my Pearl.

At first glance, the "pouch" that came with my Pearl could be mistaken for a belt clip. After closer examination it is clearly not intended to be used as a belt clip, as there is not way to attach it to anything.

The only complaint I have about the Otterbox is that it's difficult to open in the event that you have to remove the battery.

I got my BlackBerry a bit more than 48 hours ago, and I'm still debating whether to enclose it in rubber or metal (see the cases from BoxWave). Any input on that?
