Hi,
I purchased a 8830 world edition verizon on ebay from the usa
i have now found out that the phone is cdma and not gsm which i would need to be able to use the phone in the uk.
can i have the phone reprogrammed in the uk to gsm?
If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.
The phone does support European GSM frequencies (900/1800MHz), but the device would need to be unlocked. (I don't believe the GSM side of the 8830 on Verizon is unlocked from the store).
Note that the device only supports GPRS (no EDGE, and no GSM 3G).
I think it needs to be unlocked only if you want to use a sim other than the one Verizon supplies. Go to Options > Advanced > SIM Card and type MEPD. If under Personalization, Network it says "active" then it's locked. You may be able to call Verizon and get it unlocked.
