good question JoeE, i have just looked into this recently for a client who does not have the RIM data feature on their account, and it seems to be that without the RIM data feature, the sms gateway to use email addresses as recipients is blocked off.. so you won't be able to email anyone using sms on the blackberry unless you have the RIM data feature.. which is kinda lame.. (as phones can do this... but it's more of a restriction set by RIM, then by the carriers)

i too have posted this scenario few days ago, and even though i'm quite confident that there won't be much of a good news for us, you never know..

Default Cingular

To do this with Cingular send the SMS to 121 then on the first line of the message type the email addres [email address] then a space and then your message. This works for me. Be sure to put 1 space after the email address. If you hit enter it won't go through.

For T-Mobile SMS your email to 500. Follow the same format as mentioned above.

Ahh, for Fido it's 3436 because on the keypad, 3436 is FIDO.

Anyone know the code to do this for Rogers?

I found my own answer and thought someone may be able to use this:
If you are on Cingular / ATTWS send to 0000 (four zeros).

For the rest of the message use the format described for Cingular.
