Default Looking for technical explanation for troubleshooting

Just installed BES 4.0 for Domino. Handhelds will receive email, but cannot send (email never arrives). I want to understand what is going on behind the scenes with the Domino server, srp.na.blackberry.net, the handhelds, our firewall, who is initiating what and from/to where...etc. What requirements are there on the Domino server (SMTP task, etc.)

Does anyone know of a document I can get my hands on that can help me understand exactly what is going on so I can troubleshoot my problem?

Or even better yet, if you can shed some light on why I cannot send out email, that would be great too. We are using an external service for filtering spam (redbulltech.com), so maybe that has something to do with it?

One more thing....if one of the servers at redbull that DNS finds is not responding, shouldn't it fail over to the backup server?
