Default First of many (sorry) questions for 7520

Please Login to Remove!

Good morning everyone.

I recently received a Nextel7520 from my company. I'm the first person to get one and I'm having a number of issues. Partly because of inexperience and partly because we're so small, our IT guy doesn't have the knowledge or time to help me out. As you can likely guess the local Nextel people are clueless when it comes to Blackberries.

I found this site and have been reading the threads for a day or two.

My first question involves trying to keep the backlight on at all times when connected to my car's aux power outlet. I my terrritory is from Maine to NC and I drive a lot, especially at night. I found the BBLight thread and downloaded the zip file (to my desktop). From there i don't know what to do. When I try to add the new application bblight.alx and bblight.cod to the application loader in the desktop mgr I keep getting an error message that "file not found". Any ideas?

Thanks for your help

first of all make sure you download the latest version of the applications. see Mark Rejohn's killer application thread. when you unzip the files keep the two files in the same directory. now use the app loader and choose the alx file. if nothing happens maybe it was already added in the window with the other files. make sure it says install next to it.

its a great program.

I can already tell you that bblight isnt going to do what you want it to do. I have had bblight since I bought my 7520 in January I have configured and reconfigured it to every imaginable concoction and no dice. It will turn on when you hook it up but two minutes later its going to turn off. There are a number of threads inthe forums about this program and noone has ever made it work that way. As a matter of fact I just deleted my bblight because my battery life was getting so bad. I havent charged my unit in two days now and still have three bars of battery life left I used to not get more than 14 maybe 16 hours out of a charge.

it works. set the option for time of day to start and set the duration for however many minutes you want. the other option of external power keeps turning off after the preset time.

but thats not what hes asking for, he wants it to come on and stay on while plugged in, thats why I said its not going to do what he wants.

I could get it to stay on setting it to turn on at 8am and off at 5pm but battery would be dead by 10

the other option i believe works is to set it for user activity. so that when it rings the light comes on automatically. that might be an option for him.

That kind of defeats the pupose of having it be automatic as the program claims to be doesnt it?; having to change the settings daily kind of sucks.

set it once to go on at user activity. dont check anything else. when ever you touch any buttons or when it rings the light will come on. why would you need to change it.

Have you added the handheld system software to your computer.
I got the "file not found" error the first time I tried to add software to my handheld because I'd forgotten to add the system software. ( check in Desktop Manager>Help>about desktop manager>handheld software tab)
