Hello group. I was recently given a blackberry by someone who found it in a cab. Since finding it, I have posted on lost and found websites and had no response. The person that found it is VERY technology illiterate. They had messed with it and now the user info is blank. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am currently waiting on the delivery of my new 7100t so I am sure I will have plenty of use for this forum. Any suggestions would help. Thank you, Valn

My friend who works for the NYPD said it wouldn't matter. No telling which precinct it was lost in. If no one responds to my last lost and found posting I will just give it to my coworker. It's such a shame and a security issue that the serial number can't be tracked to its owner. Thanks for the suggestion. Valn

You should be able to figure out who the carrier for that bb was. Call that carrier and explain that this bb was found. They will ask you for the PIN number. If the previous owner had it replaced, or is still looking for it they will be able to tell you.

Thank you. Where will I find the pin and how can I tell which provider it came from? I called tmobil and they said their 7290 was smokey blue. I went to the Cingular site and theirs was a dark navy or black. The one I have is black, does that mean it is a Cingular? Thanks again.

Can't you just look at what network it associates with?

Just dial 611 from the phone. Even if the person who lost it, disconnected it, you'll still reach their customer service.

Check the sim card too. It should have the provider logo.

Hello all. I tried all of the above and here are the results. The sim card is white with 5 sets of 4 digit orange numbers. I tried calling 611. I turned on the radio network when prompted and got the message "Emergency Calls Only". I went to options and looked under owner, blank. The network said *none* and the selection mode is automatic. Does anyone know what provider has the white card with orange numbers? There are no logos at all on this thing. Also it says "sim card rejected". How do you find the "host routing"? Thanks again. Maybe the person who had it previously couldn't get it to work either and that's why it got left in the cab.

You can post the first 8 numbers of the sim card and it will tell you what carrier. If it is Black, most likely it is Verizon.

Is the display color or black and white? Also 9 times out of 10 is should have the provider right on the bottom of the device. Seems like every BB has their provider on it. If it has orange letters my guess is Cingular, also pop the battery off and look at the info there you will see the serial number/pin there.

Its a color screen. It looks like it has never been used as far as scrapes and scratches it looks new out of the box. I looked under the battery and found no logo, it just says blackberry 7290. The card starts with 8931038 no logo just white with orange letters. I see where the logo is suppose to be on the front bottom, but its blank. I guess I will ask my friend who found it what they want to do. Thanks again everyone. My 7100t should be here soon. I hope I like it.
