Default Issue with Desktop Manager 4.3 and 4.5

Please Login to Remove!

I have a BB Pearl 8100, BIS, running Desktop Manager ver 4.2 service pack 2 with no problems. I wanted to upgrade the version of Desktop Manager I am running to ver. 4.5 but have encountered an issue. When I install 4.5 and try to configure my sync, I keep getting the message that I require an Internet connection. I have an internet connection to obviously the software is not detecting it. Same thing happens with ver. 4.3

For the record, I am using a Intel Pentium 4 PC, 1 GB RAM, 80GB Hard Drive, Cable Internet connection with a Motorola SB 5101 modem.

What do I need to do to fix this problem?

Normally the v4.3 works good. I haven't heard of it requiring an internet connection. I've had better luck with v4.3 than v4.2 but I haven't worked with v4.5 yet. I heard v4.5 was slower than v4.3 on this forum.

Likewise, I haven't had any problems with DM 4.3..

If you post the exact error message, I could most likely get a resolution for you. The blackberry desktop manager doesn't require an internet connection so that type of message should never appear on it. But I would be a lot more help if I knew exactly what the error message you were getting was.

The message is: "The computer must be connected to the Internet in order to initially configure initialization settings. Please ensure that you are able to connect to the internet and try again."

Obviously, I have Internet connectivity.

I have never had this issue myself but between DM version upgrades, when I went from DM 4.2 to DM 4.5, I noticed that it took longer to "be ready" (buttons ungrey, etc.). When I next upgraded from DM 4.5 to 4.6, I noticed that during the install, there was a checkbox for "Check for Upgrades".

Now when I start up DM, it is ready to use faster. I would suspect that when DM starts, it connects with RIM to check for upgrades. I would guess further that this is where DM might crap out for some of you.

That doesn't explain why it detects no internet connection BUT I think it's possible to get it to stop checking for the internet by installing it with automatic update checking off.

I had the same issues and had to just stick with 4.2.2. After about 4 days (about 5hrs total), I finally got my 8100 to the latest firmware. Not liking the email though and having problems viewing them in empower now.
