Is there free AIM and SMS?
I haven't upgraded my phone in five years or so and my top choice right now is a BlackBerry CURVE 8310 from AT&T. I have seen a lot of threads about this, but I was wondering if there is a simple answer.
Is there a program that allows you to send AIM messages through data?
If so is there a free one?
Is there a program that lets you send SMS messages through data?
If so does it require the recipient to have media messages?
I don't really want to pay for extra SMS messaging.
There is a blackberry messenger on your device similar to aim. You can google mobile aim and there is a link with some info. I think it is a free download but I'm not sure. I couldn't find where and how to download it. Maybe google it on your device browser. SMS is text. It is not included in your data plan. It is in your texting plan. There are a lot of good texting plans out there. You can talk to your service provider.
Do a search of IM and SMS on this forum and you will find several threads that discuss this. Usually it's folks looking for free IM or IM over SMS only which doesn't exist. Check carefully as I think, while I'm not sure, that Aim and Yahoo use SMS to send messages but Data to log into your account.
p.s. Last threads I saw say you can't use AIM on AT&T so you would need something like Jivetalk.
I looked around and I could only find IM that used SMS which is slow and costly without unlimited text. I pay 9.99 for my phone right now on a shared plan. I want to add $30 for data, but I can't afford the $20 for unlimited text as well. I already have limited text through my 9.99.
I couldnt find any program that would let you send SMS through data.
I just got back from AT&T with a Curve 8310. The guy said that the built in AIM used data, not text messages.
I am using the AIM v2.0.46 on my Curve 8320 with a 4.5 OS. I am able to send text messages via the AIM program, which uses data to send it. What I do is start a new conversation, and put the contacts number with a +1 in front of the number (i.e., +15555555555). Seems to work just fine.
The 2.0.46 version of AIM comes with the 4.5 OS, I believe.
