Duplicated Address Book Database: Address Book and Address Book - All On DM, Backup/Restore -> Advanced showed both. The "All" has twice (or even triple) the entries as in Address Book. I've recently upgraded OS to 4.5. The device was wiped and then addresses would synced from home PC. Then it syncs with work PC. I ended up having duplicate addresses or even triplets. What's the difference b/w the 2 and why am I getting duplicates? In options, I have turn off allow duplicates. Thanks! |
Wirelessly posted (BB 8330) Did you recently upgrade your OS. |
Yes. But the device was wiped and addressbook was synced from Outlook afterward. |
Yes - it's due to upgrade Quote:
Though I haven't been able to figure out how to get rid of the extra Contact database, I was able to mitigate the duplicates by: 1) Doing a wipe 2) Reloading my Outlook data through ONE-WAY synch (i.e., Outlook to BB) 3) Then switching the sync settings to bi-directional For some reason, I'm no longer getting duplicates. It doesn't seem to make any difference if you have duplicates turned off or on. - B. |
I cleared it in DM and sync from home pc to device. Then at work, I synced again. Here is what I have right now: On DM, it shows Address Book 288 records Address Book - All 288 records On BB, Contact -> Options Desktop - 288 entries Desktop - 0 entries There is no way for me to delete one database. I am not sure if this will stay this way once I sync again at home. |
Just curious did you upgrade the handheld OS to 4.5 or to DM 4.5? |
Both |
Same Issue I am on DM 4.6 and OS 4.5 on my Peal 8130. Having the same exact issue. Used brilovett's instructions as a work-around for now... will watch this thread for potential fix. Really strange to have 2 Desktop address books... Keith |

really boring and frustrating, now :x I think (but it do not resolve it!) that my problem was upgrading the device twice (the .78 and the .83 OS for the Storm) , copying everytime the sim contacts, then the DM created the "address book - all". I hope someone finds the goal :? Merry Christmas to You all! |
not sure...but maybe fixed! I found a little piece of software, called Contacts Scrubberxxx8482; for OutlookŪ" (sorry if i don't submit the link, but i can't , only three posts don't allow it), it manages all your duplicated contacts in Outlook and rearrange your contact' profile in a few minutes. What i did to have a clea address book in my BB: 1) i made a backup of bb databases (backups avoid probems anyway!) 2) i've cleared my 2 bb address books (still don't know why two, however...) 3) i did a "scrub" of my Outlook 2003 contacts with the software described above 4) then, reconnected the device to the PC opened DM and i've synch from Outlook to BB address book Done! no more multiple restaurants or pals ;-) I hope sincerely it's not just an illusion (i'm writing and now it's 5.00 am!), but it seems it really works |
I'm in the same boat here, but the other way around. The device has the two Address Books, one is Wireless Sync = Yes (this one has 11 entries, the other Address Book is Wireless Sync = Not Avail (this one has 280 entries) Outlook went from 280 to 11 contacts. Have backed up the device db's but am, fearful of wiping. Thoughts? Thanks! Mike |
Bumpus. Update: Backed up and wiped device. Deleted the address book with only 11 entries and restored, but the device was still showing multiple address books, one is "Desktop" the other is "Unknown". Desktop address book still showing Wireless Sync = Not avail. Set "Unkown" address book to Wireless Sync = No and pulled batty on device. On reboot, there is now only the "Desktop" address book, Wireless Sync = Yes Outlook Contacts have not updated. Thoughts? Thanks! |
