Default copy and paste??? - 08-17-2008, 12:04 PM

I hope it's okay for me to participate in this forum. I don't have a BlackBerry. I question whether it's okay because the registration form refused to let me in without naming which BB I own. So I just typed one in.

A couple of weeks ago I bought an iPhone. I was foolish enough to assume it would copy and paste so I didn't verify that before laying down my cash. After all, that's old technology.

If I buy a BlackBerry tomorrow will it have Internet access and the ability to copy content from websites that I visit??? Thank you

You can always return your iphone, not hard to do. And good choice to research your choice this time....

This is one of those, I can't live without it, features along with background applications. You know, all of the stuff that Apple made fun of in the latest MacWorld keynote. Welcome to BlackBerry mac-remorse!

I agree, I am a cut and paste fanatic. Don't think I could do without it.

Same here, nothing like someone calling you with a new phone number, just highlight it and paste it under their name.

I've never been able to copy and paste text from a web page on the BB. The usual way of selecting text, like in an email, doesn't seem to work. How can it be done? Maybe I am missing something.

You can, but you have to go into Select Mode first. So on the website, press Menu, then 'Select Mode'.

You won't find a bigger Apple fanboy than me, but the failings of the iPhone have made it probably the only Apple product I don't own. No MMS, no copy/paste, and no physical keyboard. I played around with my wife's iPhone and after 20 minutes I found I HATED the keyboard. I mean really LOATHED it! Perhaps if they added these missing features and let the keyboard be used in landscape mode the iPhone would be a possibility for me. Until then, no can do.

So what is the very best BB I can get? I'm not going to play around. There probably won't be much money difference in the very best and something less.

Amen. Quite often, while working, I need to access a medical site to bone up on a disease or something. Then I'll want to send it to someone else but only the relevant few lines (quite often). C&P is not just a cute gimmick.

Multimedia Messaging Service

MMS is a descendant of SMS (Short Messaging Service). MMS extends text messaging to include longer text, graphics, photos, audio clips, video clips, or any combination of the above, within certain size limits.

MMS is frequently used to send photos and videos from camera phones to other MMS phones or email accounts. Most camera phones have MMS, but many non-camera phones have it as well.

Many newer MMS phones also support SMIL, which allows various parts of an MMS message to be arranged into a small multimedia "slideshow" to be viewed on another SMIL-capable MMS phone.

I've never even had a BlackBerry in my hands so I can't understand the kboard complaint. I guess I'll find out if I decide to ditch the iPhone. And the only thing I can imagine stopping me would be a copy and paste fix from Apple in the next 48 hours or so. They're so damned arrogant. They don't even see it as a problem.

You should just wait for the Bold to come out, unless you want one now then the Curve is a great BB.

Other forums I belong to (with this exact format) send email alerts to me when someone has posted in a thread I'm subscribed to. I didn't see it in the options. Is it there? Thanks

Instead of using the quick reply, select the reply button.
If you scroll down, you will see a Thread subscription toolbox that enables you to select for emails to be sent to you when somebody makes an entry in the thread.

I like physical keyboards. Tactile feedback - feeling the keys as I press 'em. With my fat fingers, the iPhone keyboard is too small so I make too many typing mistakes and find myself going back over and over to correct letters. It's easier to select the proper key when you can actually feel the individual keys, at least for me.

Apple's insistence that MMS is unnecessary is one of those decisions that boggles the mind. Steve Jobs says everyone has email, and email is better. I agree it is better, but most phones simply do not have email. I have dozens of friends with older phones and I love being able to send them a quick snapshot of something through MMS. Can't do it on the iPhone. Yet. There is talk that it's coming in a future OS update, but for now its missing. The decision to exclude it is like Apple insisting a one-button mouse is just fine. Are they kidding?! They practically invented the computer mouse, but Apple still insists that 1980's technology is fine. Boneheaded!

While surfing with my iphone I saw this. Gonna send it to Steve Jobs to see if he might want to use it in his promotional graphics. I didn't have any crayons so I did the best I could with a #2 pencil.

It's the most hyped device since the iPhone.

Personally, I think it's ugly, but some others are willing to sell pets, furniture, and children for it.

I myself am waiting to see how the Thunder works, if the touch screen is any good. I do like the larger screen, but we will see. But besides that I love the Curve, it's the best one I have had yet.

Newer OS with lots more bells and whistles. I'm sure there's more, but since it won't be coming to Sprint, I haven't been reading up on it much.

I know, bad form for a mod here

I just checked to see what BB ATT has. Two w/camera and no wi-fi. One with wi-fi and no camera. What's with that?

Thats the old BB way, they give some functions but rarely all. To stay with AT&T your choice should really be the curve, the BOLD won't be out for atleast another month and if you intend to return the iphone within the first month then that will not work.
If the medical website you are checking is important, check to make sure it works on the BB before you buy the BB.

The Select Mode feature is useful to know. But I guess this only applies to the blackberry browser application? There isn't a standard blackberry method of selecting text within an application that doesn't seem to have a Select Mode option in the menu? To take an example -- whilst gmail for blackberry is pretty neat, I have found it frustrating not to be able to copy and paste some text in an email; even hitting reply doesn't work because you don't see all of the previous text in the reply that you edit.

Thanks,

Mike
