| BES to BIS, Can anyone please help! Please Login to Remove! Hi, i am new to all this but i recently got given a blackberry 8110 Pearl from a friend who had theres upgraded. It appears the blackberry is set up for BES.
I thought this wouldnt be a problem however it is, my employer have blackberry technology set up however you need to be at a certain level within the business to get a blackberry. And in trying to add my own personal emails i am comming up against a brick wall. I have however entered my work email which has allowed me to use the net, etc.
However i really want my personal email accounts to be working, and i looks like the only way is to switch the BB to BIS, is this possible and can anyone please help me.
Thanks in advance

James | James,
BES accounts come with BIS. To set up your BIS Accounts see: General BIS FAQ - BlackBerryFAQ
Good Luck and Enjoy!

| Thanks for the quick response however, i know BIS is on there but i cant add any personal email addresses as it wants my user name and password which i provide but it isnt linked to an online Corporate email account as work do not permit me access. So i just want to add the personal ones without the hassles i cam getting now, is there any advice to remove the BES completely which might help...well thats what i am thinking any way? | | Offline

| Farrero,
You do not need to remove the BES to add BIS accounts. On your BB device select the Menu key > Email Settings > Email Accounts > enter your email address and password for any account outside of your work domain > Save. | | Offline

| Thanks, But it is asking for username and password to set up a new account, every time i enter it, it says its wrong, how do i check what the user name is, is it the corporate email address? If i select to create a new account it says a user already exists for this pin? Any ideas? | | Offline

You will then need to remove the IT Policy (see link below). Then have your carrier switch you to a BIS plan and add your personal accounts and then your work email via your BIS account.
Actually, I just re-read your original message. Can you clarify if you ARE currently receiving email and if so is it BIS or BES.

@Farrero,
If I understand correctly you're not able to be setup on your Works BES at the moment because you're not part of the upper echelon. Which is ok. Before we get the alternative ....
Since you can access your work email via an IE Browser (OWA) its possible that you're trying to enter that corporate user id & lan pw to access it when setting up your 8110 for BIS. This will not work. BIS is for personal email (Gmail, etc). However, if you have a desktop that you do NOT share and remains on always you can install the BBDM as a Redirector and you'll be able to do 1 local sync over USB and its sets up the 8110 for Email redirection. Contacts, Notes, Memo's will not sync though.

If you can access your work email via OWA (if there is not a reverse proxy server in place) and work has not specifically take measures to prevent the BIS servers from polling them BIS will work perfectly fine for retrieving work email via OWA.

I only skimmed the thread so you may have already done this.

| Just a quick note, depending on the way the enterprise admin has it set up at your workplace you may not be able to run a BIS while also running a BES.It is possible most of the time, but not always.
Im pretty sure that has been stated in here already, sorry if I didnt read into it. | | Offline

RogersBTSC, don't worry 407 (;), we're not trying to setup BIS and BES at the same time because Farrero mentioned he's not on "his" work setup presently - maybe at a later time, but for now not.
Thatzmister2u, wasn't aware that BIS can pick up an OWA access, if so then whats the use of having Redirector or BES?! Care to show us how this is possible since you've peeked my interest in this regard.
