I have a Pearl 8100 but no BIS/BES as BIS is not offered in China yet. Seriously thinking of getting AT&T international data plan with the Curve. I do mostly emails and browsing of news. I am hoping that with the BIS that I could reduce the time spent on laptops as I already look at them all day long.

Have you guys found that this was the case when you guys started using your BBs?

Also, if using BIS, are the emails from gmail pushed to a folder on the BB? I just wanted to confirm that gmail is not shown via the Gmail app which is what I'm using right now to check my gmail. I think the gmail app is fine but it doesn't show HTML which is kind of annoying.

First I use my laptop a lot less now.

As for GMail without a (BIS) BB Data Plan, you would have to use the app and a generic data plan.

I use my PC less for email. However, it hasn't replaced my PC.

So for example, for gmail, if you have read a message on BB, it would also shown to be read on the pc right? How about when you delete it? Would it still be there on the PC?

It has supplemented, not replaced. There are still items it can't do or isn't convenient.

At the moment since I haven't upgraded to OS 4.5.xxx I can't view HTML email. Though to be honest, I don't think the latest Newegg or Think Geek catalog will look all that great. As for the convenience factor, remoting into routers, gateways, or servers might be a neat trick but is a bit cumbersome.

It will never replace the laptop, but it does make things much easier when I am on the road reading email, etc.

I have a 8310 onAT&T with an unlimited data plan. The only time I touch a computer now is when I'm at work. I'm defiantly an addict.

Still using the PC a bunch, however, I use the BB a bunch too. Comparing one to another is somewhat akin to comparing Granny Smith to Red Delicious, LOL.

Browsing. No matter what handheld you use, even the iPhone, nothing compares to the speed and overall experience of browsing on a full blown computer.

I don't use my PC anymore to check emails, but my BlackBerry will never replace my computer. Its nice to have around to browse when I'm away from home, but when I'm at the house, I enjoy the speed and rendering of the web pages the PC gives me.

It hasn't replaced my laptop -- it never will, I suppose. I read a bit somewhere on turning your BlackBerry into a virtual workstation -- I can't post links here, but the article is out there. While I liked the suggestions, sometimes there's no replacement for a bigger screen and faster Internet.

The only time I really look at a PC anymore is at work. I rarely use my PC anymore except to pay bills and look at forums and things like that at work. Other then that, my BB does everything else for me.

Beyond having to be on a computer at work. I rarely get on the PC at home now. There are things like backing up my BB or upgrading the OS of course but beyond that, it cut my home PC usage by 90% at least.



As for gmail, I do use the app on occasion but mostly to find something I've sent/recieved that was deleted off my BB. I have a seperate gmail acct that I use for record keeping only, which I have automatic copies sent to it for every email I send/recieve with all my BIS email accts

My Blackberry compliments my Mac, but it doesn't replace it. Surfing the web, Photoshop, iTunes management, and a host of other things makes my Mac indispensable. I've got 2 monitors, one of them a 22" flat panel, and it's just too nice to turn away from.

Definitely won't replace my notebook, as my notebook has our corporate image on it and I need it to run our applications that just won't work on a bb. On VPN from home all day and the bb can't do that.

when you open email on your bb it shows open on your pc, when you delete on your bb it gives the choice of (On Mailbox & Handeld) or (On Handheld) If you choose the latter it will still be on your pc.
