Smile Blackberry 8130 Unlocked India

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

Greetings from India!!!!

I am about to buy a Blackberry 8130 from the United States when I am there later this year. Can you please let me know whether I would be able to Unlock it in India?

The reason for buying the BB from the US is that it is available at a cheaper price.

Please let me know..

Thanks

Ashwin

The 8130 is CDMA. I think you want a GSM device. The 8130 won't work over there. Isn't India all GSM?

In India, we follow the GSM standard yes, however CDMA providers here support the blackberry too now.

How much is the price differential?

Remember - the BB's in the US are carrier subsidized and hence the differential. And I would recommend unlocking it in the US - tell the service provider you want to unlock it for international travel which often works - I have seen too many instances of phones being bricked becoz of amateurs that pose as 'gurus' of the mobile world..

Should you get it unlocked from the store or even online, then I suggest using a SIM card different from the one you were provided with, to check for any incompatibility issues..

Which model are you looking to buy? I have the Curve, but am looking to upgrade to the Bold when I get a half chance..

CDMA carriers do not normally allow unlocked devices from another carrier onto their networks. You are likely going to have great difficulties getting the 8130 to work with a local carrier.

If you decide for a NON CDMA devices, HorizonWireless can give a very good deal for the unloking code....

GoodLuck, BB smartphones are the best
