Hi!

Hmmm... Strange. The link works but when it comes to actually download the file I get an info that the software is not for my phone - I tried it on my Bold 9000 and on my Curve 8300.

Any idea?

I'm not, and I was wondering whether this was happening to anyone else. I have selected the option in the settings menu, but I've never been able to see any buddy icons on the AIM app.

I did have to delete some of mshipek's service books, but all worked well. Here's the procedure I took:

- Ran Desktop Manager and chose Backup and Restore. Chose Advanced, and opened the IPD file supplied. Clicked the Service Books on the left side of the window, and click the right arrows to move it to my BB.

- Still in Desktop Manager, I went to Application Loader, Add/Remove Programs, and clicked the Browse button to find the ALX file for Instant Messenger. Ran through the install process.

- Opened the AIM file now on my BB and signed in.

- Went to Options - Advanced - Host Routing Table. Clicked the menu button and chose to register with the network.

- Went online to my BIS admin page and resent the service books.

- Opened Options - Advanced - Service Book and deleted all mshipek-specific service books. 2 of his email addresses were in there, so you're looking for 2 CICAL and 2 CMIME entries from him.

- Finally, went to Options - Advanced - Default Services and changed them back to the email and calendar I like having as the default.

So far, so good - it's been about an hour; I've had numerous AIM chats; no errors about missing service books or anything else. It's even survived a battery pull and keeps on ticking!

This worked for me too! Perfecto! But i cant seem to find 4.5 for my 8320 anyone know where to find it? I'm on T-mobile.

I followed the instructions and tried several times, but I get a message when I try to sign in that says "This application has been disabled by IT Policy." I'm on a 8300 running 4.5 on AT&T.

Any suggestions?

I just downloaded AIM right from blackberry.com. No problems, went right through, I was up and IMing within 2 or 3 minutes from hitting the download button. Next I'm doing YIM.

BTW, 8830 on Verizon, I have TXT blocked so it's going over data.

Thanks for everyone's help--I quietly read this thread and grabbed the AIM + service book, and after re-sending my service books and rebooting, then cleaning out a couple I didn't need, I've got AIM running on my 8100 over T-Mobile! :D

Yesterday I have tried to install ICQ and AIM but I can't get it installed.

First I have tried it with Internet Explorer there it says my device is not supported.
Then I have tried the BB Browser on the overview page with all the Messengers when I klick on ICQ or AIM I get an 404.
I have service books for all the Messenger on the device.
Yahoo! and Google Talk works perfectly.

Anyone any idea?

This is strange... I have AIM 2.132 version installed. I have the service books. I can sign on. I can see my buddies/contacts. I can send IM, but I can not receive them.

JiveTalk is still installed, but not logged in.

Any ideas?

EDIT: JiveTalk has been uninstalled. Still the same problem.

Just found this and am very happy! Verizon's "Mobile IM" program was awful. It's good to have legitimate AIM.

And skllndy365, for Verizon IM is included with texting bundles, so I assume each IM is considered a SMS.

Well I have Texting completely blocked on my phone so I don't see howd if be able to use the aim were talking about. So I'm thinking for at least Verizon that it is covered under data usage.

CONFIRMED

as far as Verizon goes, it is covered under Data.
I have all forms of texting blocked and haven't been charged a single cent for AIM on my BlackBerry.

I have an AIM account that I use very rarely to talk to my kids. Most often, we prefer email for the mere fact that you can answer it whenever you have time or feel like it. I have a generous texting plan on AT&T and the wife and I use the heck out of that. So, I was wondering, if it's all the same, why using AIM or another IM client would be any easier than texting in general? I assume you still have to "Sign-On" and then hope the recipient is available. Where-as with a generic text message, it's more like personal email that will wait for them to have a moment to answer.

Looks easy enough to install but I can't decide if it would only be for the novelty of it.

Wirelessly posted

Davemack,

The short answer to your question is that its not... Based on what you have said, the only reason to DL is to have it. It sounds like you have things set up well for your lifestyle, so I wouldn't change anything.

One reason someone may use that is for the simple fact that they may be able to save some $$ by eliminating text msging or lower their minute package by using more data. But if those aren't issues, then I wouldn't worry. One thing people tend to forget is that not every available program, even free ones, need to be downloaded. Its all need based.

RIM's AIM client works threw Data.

I'm trying to download AIM from www.blackberry.com/aim (Orange UK, BlackBerry Bold 9000) and am getting "Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support AOL instant messenger for BlackBerry." - I have otherwise managed to get ICQ, GoogleTalk, Live Messenger and Yahoo Messenger to install and function without trouble.

Thanks mshipek. Worked perfectly. I am running this using an unlocked storm 9530 with .76 on T-Mobile. I have to do some thing similar to get the web browser to work. After installing these service books, AIM works but the Browser disappeared.

Has anyone figure out a fix or modified the service books so that both AIM and the Blackberry Browser can operate at the same time?

Thanks,
Scott

does anybody have a solution or redirect me to another thread for my problem.
so far, for as i can tell, AIM still isnt working for the 8120(all t-mobiles). me and a few others still get the message when we try to sign on that. Connection error(65) problem receiving data from the server. does this mean that i need the data plan? because before late april, i signed onto AIM without a problem, and ever since april 24th, 2009, none of us has been able to sign onto AIM. help please? very much appreciated.
