Default 8320 backlight dims.

The backlight dims and then brightens again. Is this something to do with the light sensor, and the bb trying to save its battery? or is it a glitch?

check under Options > Screen/Keyboard > Automatically Dim Backlight if it's set to ON this may be what you are seeing

It adjusts to the ambient light. If it's darker it lights less (so you are not blinded) and it gets brighter in bright light so that you can still see (like in the sun). Keyboard and trackball will not light in the light to conserve batter and will light in darker situations so that you can see the keys.

To test, place your finger over the LED and all should light up as if it's dark.
