Default Lost Calendar Events - Help!

Please Login to Remove!

My BB deleted about 300 of my 4000 calendar events - from some random cutoff point in the 1990's. I like to keep a record of all events as a diary and for reference. Of course, they're on my Outlook as well.

My BB (Curve) is set to 'forever'. Now when I sync, I get a message that Outlook wants to delete them. I reject and have been doing a one-way sync (Outlook -> BB) but that doesn't put them back on. Also, it's far from ideal, as it cripples me by preventing me from inputing events on the BB. I also spent a lot of time freeing up memory; I have over 35 mb now.

I asked about this on the other forum (CB); no solution there. Any ideas here?

Thanks!

The bottom line is that you can only put 10 pounds of stuff into a 10 pound bag. Sooner or later you are going to run out of memory if all you do is add stuff and never delete it. I don't really understand the need to keep 15+ years of appointments ON YOUR HANDHELD device. Do you really refer to that older stuff that often? (Not trying to be critical, but very curious)

I do refer to it periodically, not often but periodically. The big problem, however, is that if it deletes it on the Blackberry it deletes it on the Outlook also.

I'm only trying to stuff 4 oz of stuff into a 10 lb bag. I freed up my memory and have 30,737,857 bytes available. 4000 calendar events shouldn't be much of a problem - the memory consumed is trivial. My 3 year old Treo did it without blinking.

Anyway, can anyone help me from declaring this BB useless to me? If I can't sync without losing my calendar, I've got a real problem.

The problem here is you set the BB to keep calendars forever so it sync the deletes. If you specify the timeframe the BB will auto purge the old entries from memory (this only deletes from handheld and not in Outlook).

Okay....
1. Can I prevent it from Autopurging?
2. If not, what can I do to prevent it from deleting the Outlook entries. At this point, I cannot sync b/c it keeps threatening to delete the events on Outlook (unless I use only one-way sync Outlook->BB).
3. If I need to, can I reset / erase the calendar on the device to allow me to restore it and then resume my normal sync routine?

What OS version are you running? I had the same problem on OS 4.5.0.55 for my 8100. 4.5.0.69 seems to have solved the problem for me. Not sure what the latest OS is for your phone. I also like to have ALL my calendar items saved on the BB. It doesn't take up that much room, and I like to always have those records with me.

As a temporary solution so you can sync, what you can do is go to the Configuration tab of the Sync page, click Configure Synch, Click on Calendar, click the Configure button at bottom right, then choose Advanced Settings, then select Transfer only Future Items.

EDIT: and yes, you can delete and restore your entire calendar database off the BB. I have done that a few times. in Dekstop Manager, go to the "Backup and Restore" page, click Advanced, then highlight the Calendar database on the right hand pane and click Clear. (MAKE SURE you have a backup or all your events in Outlook before doing this! If you event are not backed up elsewhere, they will be gone forever!)

Thanks for the great input....very helpful.

If I do future items only, it'll go both ways, right (BB <=> Outlook)?

It's a brand-new Curve 8330, and I have OS 4.3.0.127. Sounds older than yours. Why would that be? Is it easy enough to upgrade, and should I or might there be other complications?

Also, I cannot for the life of me find the "transfer only future items" button.

I have Folder Mapping, Confirmations, Conflict Resolution, Filters, and Field Mapping. Am I in the right spot?............Hold up - I got it - it's in Setup, not Advanced in my version, anyway.

Hi folks,

Interesting enough someone in my organization is having the similar problem with appointments on the Curve. The syncs began to fail, and we noticed all future appointments got deleted from both Outlook and the device. Since we don't have an Exchange server, we don't use BES. We're using IMAP with IDLE on the mail server. No idea how to go from here. Thanks all.

If your events are on Outlook, try this, follow the steps for deleting th events on the BB then re-sync.

Sounds like you found it.

I'll throw in my $0.02 on Desktop Manager versions. I have been using DM 4.2SP2 for a long time. Very recently, I "upgraded" to 4.5, and my sync's started doing some funny things. For example, for one particular appointment, it would switch the reminder flag back and forth with each sync. So on sync 1, it would set them both to the BB status. On sync 2, it would set them back to the original status on Outlook. sync 3, back to the original BB status, and so on. I never had any problems like this with with 4.2SP2. That was just one of the issues, there were others too. So I have since downgraded back to 4.2SP2 and am syncing with no issues again.

As far as the BB OS version, I don't see any reason not to upgrade to the latest version. Check the sticky's in the 8300 forum for the latest known version for your phone. You can upgrade your phone to 4.5 and continue to use DM 4.2SP2 no problem.

Good luck.

I think the answer to that is obvious... This is clearly the best BB forum around!

Note To Self -

After 'Clearing' in the 'Backup & Restore' tab, I had to restart Windows in order to get everything back on. It wouldn't reload the stuff otherwise.
