Default Question About Applications

Please Login to Remove!

I don't have a Blackberry yet and I was wondering about the data plan I'd need to purchase. If you don't buy the data plan, would be able to use applications like the Facebook one? I wouldn't want to spend 30 extra dollars a month only to check a few websites.

There are two types of Blackberries - those with wifi and those without. You may be able to access some 'data' services via wifi (if you have a wifi-enabled 'berry - typically the XX20 versions).

But beyond that, anything other than voice calls, texting and wifi requires data plan - including email, facebook, other web-based apps, navigation options (GPS enabled phones can access GPS satellites without 'data', but require data for displaying/updating maps)...

Bottom line, unless you want just a phone and/or a PIM, you need a data plan.

And if you want to stay with Verizon, you won't be able to purchase a BB without purchasing the data plan. They are quite firm about that policy.

Makes me glad I don't live in the states - I pay 2.50 a month (about 5 dollars) for my BIS service.

A lot of companies I think are like that, Rogers in Canada is owned by AT & T and you cant buy a BB without a data plan, so my assumption would be that you'd need one from AT & T as well. I stand to be corrected tho.

Also, the primary advantage of using a BB is its functionality with data applications. If you dont really plan on using it that much, I would go with a different phone that doesnt require a data plan, but allows you to use a mobile browser.

GL!

Wirelessly posted

I would bet if you got a bb and only intended to use it every now and then for the web, you will quickly find yourself using it all the time. Verizon has a 30 day guarantee, so maybe you should try it and see.
