I seem to always have problems with DM no matter what version, even more than I had with ActiveSync when I used an IPac.

About 6 months ago an older version of DM wiped my BB 8800 clean. AT&T made good on my warranty and replaced with a new BB 8800. Since that event I have avoided DM and relied on OTA downloads. This worked fine. I had decided I could do just fine without DM.

But when OS 4.5 came around and I wanted--I needed a DM

So I downloaded DM ver 4.6. Worked fine for about 10 days and then yesterday, for no good reason, during a sync I got an error code (error code 0x80040ff8) and DM closed without finishing the sync. Tried over and over. Same error, no sync. I uninstalled and went to the other 'puter on the network and installed DM 4.6 When I synced I go the same error on this 'puter. Makes me think it's something on my device. DM sucks!

Anyone had this experience or has an idea what is going on??

Why are you doing a sync if you don't need DM except for installing the OS? Actually, you can install the OS without running Desktop Manager. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and run "Loader.exe"

I didn't know u could use take that path and use an app loader without DM.

But, to answer ur question in full, once I had DM install it seemed to work well so I went back to using Outlook and syncing.

Ah. Well, you can't sync without DM. I have had errors syncing but usually removing certain calendar apps or deleting and adding back contacts fixed it. I've never had major issues with DM.

so the best thing I can do is to wait a week, two, maybe three and, if I'm lucky, things might change enough on my device to allow it to sync once again

Can you look in the sync logs and see what it was syncing when it crashed?

You should have that research in motion folder. Did you install the OS?

nope, no research in motion. I used Absolute Uninstaller to remove software. It is advertised as leaving no traces of the program it uninstalls. Thanks
