I have a bb 7100t set up with all my e-mail and on a bes 4.0. But it's having some issues, and I want to transfer all my data and bes account to another blackberry (an identical 7100t model). I have full access to the bes server as well. I tried backing up from the first, and restoring to the second, and all my data is there, but I can't get any new e-mail. I'd prefer not to do the wireless activation, because I'm currently roaming out of the country, so data is pretty expensive. Is there a way to activate through the desktop manager?

Sure, just plug it in. Desktop Manager will detect the new PIN and ask you if you want to switch to the new handheld.

since its BES 4.0, then it will still do the wireless activation after it grabs the desktop services from the wired portion - the initializing portions are all done wirelessly. you can limit it by setting each individual item for No on Wireless Synchronization, as well as removing the appropriate checks on the PIM tab for your account on the BES (such as wireless backup).

Are you sure about that? It was my understanding that although the "Enterprise Activation" procedure is run, it runs over-the-wire if the Blackberry is still tethered to the USB port, and switches to over-the-air if you disconnect the Blackberry.

Certainly my Blackberry Router status shows a lot of data packets moving back and forth if I do an Enterprise Activation while connected... I'm certainly hoping that the device isn't just engaging in idle chit-chat with my BES...

EDIT: In fact, this must be the case, since I've successfully completed a full Enterprise Activation while connected to my USB port with the radio on my BB turned off.

Likewise, I've activated Blackberries w/ no wireless coverage (you tend to do this a lot w/ Nextel)
