Anyone noticed a problem with BlackBerry batteries swelling up when not used for a long time?

I was recently looking through my toy box to find a smaller phone to swap to while I went away for a few days, and noticed that an 8100 and an 8300 that were in there both had 'bloated' batteries - they both had a considerable bulge, and the phones wouldn't power up.

There's maybe another 20 or 30 other phones in my toy box (Windows Mobile, Nokia, and others) and the others all seemed fine. And an 8800 was fine too - it's just the 8100 and 8300 that seem to have blown their batteries.

Has anyonbe else seen this? I get a bit worried when I see Lithium Ion batteries start to bulge - I've seen too many YouTube videos of things exploding!

what did you have them charged at before you put them in storage?

Ah - that's the million dollar question. I've no idea! But even so, should a BlackBerry blow its battery whether charged or fully discharged?
