Default Question About Commingling Work & Personal Email

Please Login to Remove!

I use a blackberry through my work. I want to have my personal email accounts to send email to my blackberry. (I know how to set this up, so don't need help there). But, I am wondering if the technical people at work - with appropriate access - can read my personal email if I do this. I'm assuming so, if it goes through the blackberry server. I guess I'm asking if I set up the personal email accounts on my blackberry, will the mail go through the blackberry server to get to my handheld? What about text messages? I text sometimes with my blackberry and a co-worker told me they could read those too. I really have nothing to hide, but there are a lot of immature technical people in the company I work for who would love to just read this stuff for grins.

In summary:

Incoming Personal Email... no they can't read it.
Outgoing Personal Email... maybe, depending on how your corporate server is set up.
Work Email (In and Out)... yes, they can read them.
Text Messages... yes, they can read them.
PIN Messages... yes, they can read them.
Phone Call Logs... yes, they can see them.
BlackBerry Messenger conversations... yes, they can see them.

I know this isn't what you want to hear but, it is never a good idea to put personal info, email, etc. on a company device. They are paying the bill and expect you to use it for work purposes. Have you spoken to the IT Staff to see if they will allow your personal mail ont he BB? Many companies lock down the BB with IT Policies so you can only do what they decide you can do.
