I already own a curve 8310 and will buy an 8820 next week as well
My question, is there any way to transfer my set up, contacts, themes etc from one device to the other easy?

I believe the "Switch Device Wizard" in DM will accomplish at least some of this, though I'm not for sure as I'm a Mac user and not familiar with DM. I believe it will definitely transfer contacts, though.

As Rach stated, ^^ Desktop Manager > Switch Device Wizard will do all you need to do.
Contacts, mail, messages, settings, themes, mad cow disease and anything on the device memory.

It will not affect the Media Card. Pop that out and move it physically.

Especially mad cow disease...
