I recently purchased an "unlocked" Blackberry 7730 on eBay, which, much to my surprise, arrived still locked to the Telstra (Australia) network, with the sellers SIM card still in the device!

After numerous attempts to contact the seller, I have given up, and I am therefore hoping someone can offer advice on unlocking the device to enable me to use it on my current network.

Also, as the sellers personal data, including email messages and phone book etc appear to be stored, I would also appreciate any advice on clearing this, so it will be like using a new Blackberry for the first time. Sorry for sounding like such a "newbie", but any info would be greatly appreciated!

If you search the forum there are a tone of threads which detail getting your BB unlocked but here is the long and short to your question. With regards to clearing your device just install the desktop manager and under back restore there's an advanced feature which will alow from quick deletion or install the javaloader.exe and wipe the device completely.

As for unlocking sorry but Bongo Wireless is pretty much your only option www.bongowireless.com (no there is no other option, at least as fool proof and working as Bongo ie Voice/Data/PIN) Not sure what you paid for your device but BB unlocking doesn't come cheap. It may be in your best interest to sell the device and purchase one for your network.

Finch man, you missed the two easiest methods of clearing info from the handheld.

1) set a password then enter it in 10 times wrong

2) if the handheld runs 4.0 software, go to Options > Security > click the thumbwheel and select Wipe Handheld

It's a friday tho, so it's all good ;)
