Default Wil push-email work with my wifi??

Please Login to Remove!

Hi

I am a Blackberry newbie and wondered if it is possible to have a Blackberry without a Blackberry specific data tariff from my network Orange? I still want my emails to be pushed to me via my wifi at home - is this possible? I'm not too bothered about not getting my emails pushed to me when I am out and about as I'll be mostly at home being a new mum...

Hope someone can help

Rgds

Even with a Blackberry Data Plan you can't get email over WiFi, but it sure would be cool if you could. I travel overseas and it would come in very handy there.

^ umm what?! why how figure you cant get email over wifi with a BB data package?! thats 100% WRONG! if you are subscribed to the BlackBerry Data plan from your wireless carrier then YES when you are connected to wifi everything will work through WiFi!

Hmm, maybe I'm doing something wrong, or perhaps my carrier (AT&T) has restricted that function on my device. I go to China quite often and while there, even when connected to a WiFi network, I can not get my email.

You must be doing something wrong, or have something configured incorrectly.
It's not carrier related. We have many AT&T users with 8820 devices, and unlocked 8320 devices. WiFi-only works fine for them.

I've gone from the UK to Canada, turned off mobile data, turned on wifi, connected to a local WiFi router and had no problem receiving email. Worked like a charm.

Maybe it has something to do with the 'great firewall of China'.

Ha, I haven't thought about the "great firewall of China" before. Maybe that's it!

After failing at my first attempt to retrieve email via WiFi in China, I just assumed it couldn't be done. Obviously that was a bad assumption so next time I'll actually play around with it and see if I can get it to work.

Thanks everyone for pointing me in the right direction.
