Yep, it's there apparently using the new upgrade process referred to here:

Web-based software upgrades being made ready? | BlackBerryNews.com

And you must be running IE, not FireFox.

Ran for me, but apparently the OS I have currently is more current than what's available. Anyone know what revision this is yet?

Tried this with an 8100, 8800, 8700 and 8310 all running various 4.5 releases, all said I'm running the latest

7290 -> 8700 -> 8800 -> 8300 -> 8310 + 8100 -> 9000

I know I am running something higher than ATT will release, probably not worth trying except for the "experience".

It won't do anything other than say you are running the latest and give you the option to receive an email when there is an update available.

Nerts... thought I had the scoop... But I guess that's a start that RIM changed SOMETHING and is getting ready.

I'll say! Even tougher procedure! How'd you manage 4.6 on an 8310?

I just tried with another blackberry from sprint (8830) and got the message saying I'm running the newest version. So is not the AV.

No, I don't think so.
Probably running a beta version of 5.0 on his 8310.
Several people have tried it... and it's far from complete or stable.

no, I too suspect he might have 5.0, it's fine for someone to test, if you don't want BlackBerryMessenger and a few other small glitches they have yet to fix.

Sure was slow. No upgrade for me (I am running 4.3 for the 8330 - all the 4.5's were too buggy).

I did notice that I could choose to be notified via email when an update is available.

Anyone with .55 version get it to "upgrade" on an 8310 using the link???

Is it not working yet, or do we need to roll back to 4.2 to get the "official" AT&T version?

I had a Newton in 1994 and WAY too many PDA's and PDA Phones to remember since...

8130 is CDMA, this is a GSM release. It isn't compatible.

So has RIM just screwed up on the upgrade page? It doesn't say anything about GSM vs. CDMA...

It's not just for GSM only.
The web-based upgrade tool will be for most models (GSM or CDMA) and most carriers.
Availability of the actual OS is apparently still dependent upon release/approval from the carrier.

When I ran it, it confirmed my PIN and asked for my device password. Then it connected to the device and went looking for an update, followed by:

"A fatal error has occurred while updating your device software. Please try again."

Tried it a couple times just for fun...same result each time.

When this starts working it looks like it will be pretty easy for non-geek customers to use...

My guess is, however, that Verizon (aka control freak inc.) won't let us use it...

I had the same error once, I had Desktop Manager running at the same time. Then my Macafee kicked in and blocked the app loader install. Once I allowed it and shut DM, THEN ran the upgrade it came up. Didn't update, but it didn't crash.

8310 running 4.2.2.170 on AT&T

Everything installed fine and opened up the app loader. It then said there wasn't an available update and asked if I wanted to enter my email address to be notified of when it will be. Still waiting.......

I didn't have DM running, so that wasn't the source of my error...no issues w/AV blocking things, no messages of any type, except the error from the upgrader.

4.5.0.55 is berry berry good for me.

Doubtful. Not a very good way to do upgrades in a BES environment.
