I keeps forgetting to close the applications after Im done with them and after a while I notice a slowdown in phone performance. When this happens, I usually do a battery pull to reset everything. Im wondering if there is a way to check which apps are active and running so I could close them individually.

Press and hold ALT + Escape at the same time. Anything more than the base 5 apps and you have stuff in the background. Select it and then hit escape or Menu>End to close.

Hold the Alt button and press the back button

when in an App hitting escape doesn;t close it - that just sends it back to the background again.
