Default Restoring 8300 backup file to 8830

Please Login to Remove!

I dropped my 8300 Curve in water. If I leave in a hot car for a few hours it will work for an hour or so, then the buttons quit working.

Anyway, I am considering switching carriers from AT&T to Cellular South. They have a deal until the end of the month where they will pay the early termination fee with AT&T. They offer the Curve 8830, which has both GSM and CDMA networks. Two questions:

- Any thoughts on this phone vs the 8300?
- Will I be able to restore the backed up file from the 8300 to the 8830?

Thanks-

Disassemble the phone as much as possible and stick it in a ziplock bag with a couple of cups of uncooked rice (NOT minute rice). It will help draw the moisture out of the phone and may help you save it.

Go to your carriers store before you move to the 8830. You can check out the new phone and get some hands on before you move.

And yes, do what the previous post said. If your lucky, you can use the switch device wizard if you can breathe some life into your old phone. It sounds as if you will be able to use the Switch Device Wizard. If you cannot and you have a backup, you can do a selective restore of your calendar, address book, bookmarks, and message store using the Advanced feature in the Backup area of the Desktop Manager software.

Good luck....

H.

Do you mean the Curve 8330? Or is it an 8830? Big difference.

Before you make a mistake and switch, make sure that the new carrier has the coverage when and where you need it - where you live, work, play and travel.

Also, the 8830 is CDMA in North America, GSM outside of North America.
