My wife and I both have 8130 Pearls from Verizon - she's on a BES, I'm on BIS.

I'm going to update her to 4.5.0.77...is there any difference what PC I update her from? I can just connect her to my PC (where I already have 4.5.0.77 and DM installed) and do the upgrade, right?

I upgrade different devices from my work PC all the time. If you have a prompt come up asking for a profile, click cancel. If you're asked if you want to switch to a new PIN, cancel that, too.

Alternately, you can just run the Application Loader indepently of the Desktop Manager. In Windows Explorer, navigate to this folder:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

And double click on Loader.exe.

And remember that upgrading your wife's device will result in her getting disconnected from her BES.
She'll need to contact her IT department afterwards and ask for a new Enterprise Activation.

Hmmm...I upgraded it before (but couldn't remember if I did it from her laptop or my laptop, which was why I asked) but don't remember her losing service at all, or needing to get it re-activated again. She was on BIS very briefly before they set her up on the BES...maybe I did the previous OS upgrade while she was still on BIS?

Not questioning your experience/knowledge, but are you guys sure she'll need her company BB guy to re-activate her if I upgrade the OS? They have a very loose BES policy and informal processes at her office - they don't manage/care what OS she is on (they support a number of people on different blackberries from different providers - people get their own BB from whomever and then request to be added to the BES), she can install anything she wants to on the BB, and she doesn't appear to have any policy restrictions other than requiring a password...they almost have the BES support as a kind of an afterthought - the guy who does the support for the small number of users they have does it on the side in addition to his "real" job.

Appreciate the re-confirmation of this stuff...my personal knowledge base is pretty much BES-free.

After any OS change (upgrade/downgrade) the device must perform an enterprise activation, which requires an activation password be set on the BES.

Best to check with the BES Admin first.

That sounds like very good advice...I'll drop him an email. We've talked back and forth in the past when getting her device set up on their BES.
