Default Smart Filing stopped working

Please Login to Remove!

I searched and read up on this here. From what I see the device learns from past filing of e-mails. This has always worked well on my 8300 and it appeared as if it looked at the subject line or maybe a message thread to determine the destination folder.

We use Lotus Notes with BES ?

I checked with a another colleague who uses a Pearl and we are on the same system.

He also no longer gets smart filing and now you have to navigate to your destination folder each time. Being used to smart filing, this is real pain the Berry

Is this a feature that our BES admin may have changed that is causing this as it seems to happen across multiple devices ?

I just want to make sure that when I do open a ticket on this that I can describe the problem correctly and hopefully get good response from my IT.

Thanks

I've never heard of this feature breaking, unless you received a new device or something.

I am also sure that it's nothing that is controlled via the BES....so not sure why it wouldn't be working anymore.

It has definitively stopped working.

I have many Data Warehouse jobs that run each day on our systems and e-mail me reports, same From, To and Subject every time except for obviusly the date that changes.

I have always been able to hit File and it would automatically highlight the folder where I have filed many of these in the past.

Now File lands me at my Inbox folder and I have to scroll up 50 folders to the proper folder. Very frustrating.

I have pulled the battery (many times ), cleaned the memory etc. but nada.

Wirelessly posted (My blond BlackBerry)

A shortcut after clicking file is to start typing the folder ne. It will search by name that way.

Thanks juwaack68. That is indeed an option but I want to get the productivity feature back.

It worked before and should work again....

I agree. Just wasn't sure you knew of that shortcut.

Honestly, I've never heard of this issue.
On a longshot, have you tried a battery pull?

Odd -- I've never had it fail on me either. You're sure that that the sender's email address hasn't changed or anything?

I just checked one particular e-mail subscription which I get every Thursday. The sender e-mail has always been root@finrpt1.my.company.com (domain name changed to post here, but it has always been the same. I have dozens of these over the past year or two) and the subject line is always New generation captured.

Any other ideas ?

Thanks

I just upgraded (if you can call it an upgrade) from an 8300 to a 8310 and miracoulsy this feature is now working again.

Was this a device issue ?

My IT group also moved me from a unrestricted into a more restricted policy with the upgrade, but previously it stopped working while using the same policy on the BES.

Just some food for thought....

Wirelessly posted (8130)

Once you file the message on your BB do you then do a hard sync with your PC. If not it could be that the BB simply got filled up. I haven't experienced the failure myself so I am guessing a bit here.

I don't hard sync the BB with my pc, only back it up now and then.

I doubt that that it was full, still had plenty memory left and there were no warnings / indicators that it was getting full.

Huh! I never realized it did that. I always assumed it new where to File my messages because I have a server-side rule in Exchange that files them into subfolders in my Outlook mailbox.
