Default IMAP e-mail without BIS/BES

Please Login to Remove!

I've been a longtime BlackBerry user having worked for a company with a BES in the past, but don't anymore and BIS use is not permitted due to having to store login info on the BIS server and messages not being encrypted. The popular device to use nowdays is an iPhone as it does have a nice IMAP client.

Thus, I'm in a bind when it comes to getting e-mail on my Curve. I've found LogicMail which is a native IMAP client but it is only ok and I'm looking for something better.

So, any suggestions on a better IMAP client or are future devices or OS updates going to support connecting to IMAP directly rather than going through BIS/BES?

Thanks!

Wirelessly posted (8310; RammerJammer!)

This not an answer to your question, but email is encrypted on all the path that RIM controls.

The story comparing BIS and BES in this forum would seem to indicate otherwise.

"Email messages sent between the BlackBerry Internet Service and the BlackBerry Internet Service subscriber's BlackBerry smartphone are not encrypted."

All messages sent to and from Blackberry smartphones are routed through the Blackberry Infrastructure. All messages sent through the Infrastructure are encrypted using state-of-the-art and industry-certified Triple DES or AES-256 encryption.

Options are extremely limited since the BB is designed for BIS/BES.
