am i the only blackberry user from kuwait on here?

there is a carrier that sell blackberrys in kuwait ( ZAIN )
but i havent seen any users from kuwait

even though i got my berry from vodafone and got it unlocked hehe

I'm having the same problem with Zain in Kuwait. I just received my Blackberry Bold and am unable to activate with BES. When the phone goes into 3G mode I'm unable to send/receive SMS or make phone calls. When I force it into 2G mode I am able to use the phone normally but still not able to activate with BES.

Worked on this for about 4 hours today. I think I will go to Zain tomorrow and see what the deal is.... My guess is I need to activate Blackberry service on this line even though EDGE/HSDPA is enabled already... Found some info on the Zain KW website but unable to post the link here.

Looks like Blackberry service is a 'corporate' service and is sold through the Corporate Sales Department.

Interesting.... Does this need to be done by Zain or somehow on the phone itself. I just contacted the service center and they said I would have to go to visit one of the Zain branches and activate Blackberry service.

Guess I'll be doing that tomorrow. Too tired to deal with the airport branch of Zain.

no u dont need to go
just send the letter F to 99999
if not F just call them and ask them which letter for the video call
trust me never go to them they dont knw anything abt blackberry

Ok, I was able to get 3G working by sending VC to 99999. I'm still unable to activate my blackberry with my company's BES server. Do you have the blackberry data package or do you just have the normal data package?

raven, I'm from the US and there are probably only a handful of BB users here in Kuwait. IMO, normal mobile service here in Kuwait is much better than in the US. Customer service is terrible but its on par with dealing with ATT. There is 3G coverage in probably 95% of Kuwait.

Thanks for all the help! I braved the Zain service center at the airport tonight. I was number 467 in line and the they were just serving #400. So ridiculous..... Got a coffee at Starbucks and read the paper. About 45 minutes later my number was called but my hopes were pretty low.

Luckily, I got a younger Kuwaiti guy who was actually very knowledgeable about BB service. Converted my line to post-paid and signed up for the local BB data package. Local BB data package is 14KD for 1GB of data. After 1GB I think he said its 1fil per kb. The global BB data package is 29KD for 1GB of local data and 10mb of global data per month.

Just got home and everything seems to be working now. Very happy so far but this is my first experience with BB.

I've had an iPhone since the first hack for the 2G was released over a year ago..... Just got tired of the iPhone.
