Default IMAP Gmail setup not working

Please Login to Remove!

With the newly discovered ability to sync contacts with Gmail, I have decided to test the Gmail scenario. I have Google Talk, and Google Sync in stalled, however, attempting to setup Gmail with the IMAP settings was unsuccessful. I attempted from my work cpu using Firefox and IE. And then from my device. I am getting the error message that read “An error occurred during setup…..”

Is there anything wrong with the IMAP configuration?

Did you follow the instructions from Google's help section.

I can't help you too much on this one, I gave up until they get the delivery time fixed, POP is so much faster.

Yes, I've done all that. Both Pop and IMAP are enabled. I tried both personal and work. It just doesn't seem to work. This is a Gmail account I never use....just wanted to do some IMAP testing. I have given up....

Make sure that the port is set to '993' and 'Use SSL' is set to 'Yes'.

is the only thing I can think that might be wrong (or that you are not using full username)

Enter your Google Mail username (including '@googlemail.com') but leave the password field blank.

But you have likely already read all this in the instructions.

If you have, my apologies (it does no harm to double check)

I've heard problems from people who enabled both POP and IMAP. Enable only IMAP if that's what you want.

Agreed: I have experienced that problem in the past.

Well it seems as if it was the POP being enabled that was holding me up. I disabled and it works fine. The only thing different from yesterday is that I have since removed the Google Sync, which I downloaded yesterday, however, I don't think that has a bearing on whether or not BIS can validate my Gmail account. The reason for resurrecting the Gmail account is so I can fully test the email, calendar, and contacts syncing so I can make a recommendation to the people who I recently converted to Yahoo, who may want to switch back to using Gmail.

Thanks for the help.
