How to sync with exchange server?

I am currently looking at new company cell phones and considering making the move to the new Blackberry Storm. Currently we are using the Samsung i-760 with active sync. Is there a way to make the change to a Blackberry device and still sync with exchange server without purchacing the Blackberry software?

There are 3rd party solutions like astrasync but they are only compatible with exchange 2007 for the moment..

You can sync via USB cable and Desktop Manager (via your client app). IMO, however, BES is the way to go.
