My question/issue is - I have a user who is not able to unlock their BlackBerry on the first try. It isn't until you see the Enter "blackberry" to continue box and blackberry is entered - that he is unable to unlock the device. I would normally say that it could be an ID-ten-T error and he is entering the wrong password, but I experienced it myself when troubleshooting...and btw we both are idiots.

It's crazy - you enter the correct password each time, but it's not accepted until after like the 5th time. I've researched and researched, but haven't been able to find anytime.

Has anyone else every experience this kind of issue?

What model Blackberry is it? If you are using SureType ( i.e; the 8100, 8120, 8220), you may want to review how you are striking the keys.

Very interesting. Are you sure caps lock or num lock is not on?

What happens when you pop the battery out for about 30 seconds?

No clue which model you are using... but, make certain your SHIFT is not engaged which forms capital letters, or your ALT is not depressed--forms symbols.

So the user (and you) could be entering something totally different while the PW is masked in *****.

By the way, note that after the tenth wrong attempt, your devices will be wiped completely of all data, contacts, calendar, etc. Make sure you have a good backup of both, or all devices, and if you are on a BES it won't really matter as you just get a new activation and move on. But the user will lose any personal data on the device.

Nevertheless, a password is a password, and the BB doesn't "change" it for you, so there must be some glitch you and he are performing while entering the "incorrect" password.

My bad regarding the model - it's a 8820 and we are on a BES 4.1. Something else thats weird is - this began with his 8800. Thinking it was an OS issue I upgraded his device, but that obviously didn't resolve it.

Being as though the password is store locally on the device I cancelled out the fact that it could be something on the BES. This actually isn't the first time I've seen this (this is the 2nd) - last time I just asked the user to change his PW and I haven't heard from him since.

What else could it be? Any help is greatly appreciated.
