Default Water damage solutions?

Please Login to Remove!

Hey guys, I bought my Blackberry Curve 8310 in July of this year.

Unfortunately, I dropped my phone in the sink (stupid me), and now it has the pink line on the battery, which I heard is the indicator of water damage.

If I give some symptoms of my Blackberry, can you guys give me some ideas of what I should do? I've called AT&T about four times, and each time I got a different answer. I had two who were obviously in it for the money and gave me outrageous options, while the other two's options seemed too good to be true.

I'm trying to figure out the best solution to resolving my problem. I don't want to have to pay over $100 to get a new phone. My ideal solution would be to just purchase a brand new battery, but I'm wondering if that would be enough.

Here's what my phone is doing:
- I sometimes have to push the rolling ball a few times before it actually clicks.
- It turns on and off randomly.
- Sometimes I have to push some letters harder than others.

What should I do?
Thanks so much guys

Well first and foremost, LET IT DRY. Dont turn it on, keep it off. If you can, take it apart and put a blow dryer to it. In 24h hours or so, turn it back on. If its still doing the same thing with the pearl, ill tell you how to fix it.

welcome to BBF

unfortunately there may not be much you can do I'm afraid the damage may be done

check out this link
Got Your BlackBerry Wet? - BlackBerryFAQ

you can disassemble the BB underneath the track ball there is a small film use an exacto type tool to lift the fim and clean with denatured alcohol DONOT soak it alcohol wipe wil work and let it thoroughly dry before replacing the film

for the letters try again using alcohol and wiping down the main board underneath the keypad again let it dry

as far as the on and off that tough you could try wiping the whole board with alcohol. but not sure how much help that will be

you can also try putting BB into an uncooked bag of rice to help pull the moisture out (not instant) needs to be regular rice

good luck

This may be a VERY stupid question...

Do you have insurance with your carrier? I was amazed to find out that mine covered accidental damage when my old iPhone went for a swim in orange juice!

If you turned it on before drying it out thoroughly (Like 4 or 5 days straight) then these symptoms probably won't go away. Time to replace it.

My brother's bb took a swim in sink, but by sheer stroke of luck it didn't get water damage indication turned on.

After drying for few days, it does have random very odd minor problems but otherwise fine.

Maybe try bag of white rice for few more days, and see if it improves any.
