Default Very Basic Email Questions

Hi everyone on these forums. I am a cellphone guy at Best Buy and I love Blackberrys. I can easily setup any normal email address like an aol or a gmail yahoo address.

And I know that for people to set up their enterprise email they have to go through their IT departments at their job to get user names/ passwords to add that to their blackberrys.

But how do you add a non standard email address to a blackberry for example. [email address]. I have a customer who is a golf pro who would love to get his pga email address working on his blackberry but when I put in his username and password the blackberry can't configure the email address. I don't know if its a pop3 or Imap email account or how to find out if it is or what that would mean in terms of being able to set up the account.

Regardless of my understanding of how the email setup works if anyone has an idea of how to setup the email of this gentlemen so he could get it on his phone it would be great.

It all depends on how pga.com has their servers setup. They may not allow POP or IMAP access which many corporations do not. We would need to know a little more info to trouble shoot.

How does your customer access the email now? Web portal? or Outlook?

I believe he accesses it through a web portal. I looked all over pga.com's website for any sort of information about email support and webhosting but i'd be better off looking for the latest golf story on their website.

I'll know more tommorrow hes visitng me first thing in the morning since I broke one of his other emails he already had setup on his blackberry by getting verizon to reset his Blackberrybis account. Part of the problem is its a 7103e blackberry that was setup originally 3 years ago and hes never messed with the email since. And therefore he didnt remmember if he had ever setup an blackberrybis account or any password he might have had. And consequently his origional email address was removed.

If it is a web portal I bet they do not have POP or IMAP setup which would mean no access via the BlackBerry other than using the browser. Your customer may want to forward the email to another address he has access to on the BlackBerry.

If he is accessing via Outlook Web access you may still be able to get the Email to work. Have him log into his account and use the same settings in the BIS setup.
