I shopping for a new Bold from AT&T and the guy there is telling me I have to pay $10/month extra for the GPS. Is there any GPS in the Bold if I dump that extra service? Or is the extra service for turn-by0turn directions etc? I want to use BB maps with a "you are here!" star and would also like to use some of the other third party GPS apps .

See the GPS forum. There are many GPS apps out there. Some are free. Some are not.

The $10/month at the at&t rep is referring to is for Telenav/at&t Navigator. It's just another GPS app option. It's not a GPS "service". Your GPS receiver works with or without Telenav/at&t Navigator.

I have a Rogers Bold unlocked that I'm using on AT&T. I use the GPS for free (although I do have the Blackberry Data Plan package: $50/month unlimited data and messages), no extra fee. I never signed up for TeleNav. I just open BB Maps and use the menu key to "Start GPS". Boom.
