I've reached a dead end and don't know how to proceed in setting up my gmail account so I can send and receive email on my Pearl 8110.

Went to Setup Wizard, which only offers me the option of BES or skip. Don't want to synch with work email.

I went to the ATT BIS set up site, entered my PIN and IMEI numbers. Got a pop up that said your device isn't registered with the network yet, you should, but if you don't you may not get some functionality.

Checked PDF owners manual about registration. Went to Options, Advanced Options, Host Routing Table, Menu, Register Now, got a pop up that said registration message sent. Approximately 1 hour ago. Nothing has happened at my end since.

Continued through the ATT BIS set up and was told I had successfully set up my gmail account. Clicked on send service book. Haven't seen any messages, updates or other changes.

Went to my phone, selected compose an email, and got a message "no account set up, you can only save a draft."

What am I missing? Where do I go next?

You may need to contact the carrier to do a reset and allow you to register or re-register

Did you buy the BB new or used?

Do you have a BB dataplan?

Did you try pulling the battery for about 30 seconds and then let the device reboot?

Did ATT provision the device and send service books?

Bought it new at ATT store.

Have data plan.

Have now removed and reinserted battery.

When I completed the BIS sign up, I clicked on send service book. Don't know anything about any other service books.

Don't know what you mean by "Did ATT provision the device", but they did turn it on when I bought it and internet browser seems to be in order.

Guess one of my questions should be, what should be happening? What I am supposed to see going on after completing these steps?

I think I have come across this, if it is what I think it is you need to go to Settings. In settings you will choose another menu. Unfortunately I don't have a Blackberry in front of me and I can't remember the exact menu to go to. Basically you tell it to join the network.
If you can't find it this should give you enough info so if you call At&t they will know what you are talking about.

However, I just now went to Options, Advanced Options, Applications, and found a listing for "email setup application". The menu option on that one includes show properties. That shows a description that includes "application for setting up BlackBerry Internet Service email". I can't find an icon to run the BIS application. A friend showed me his blackberry (different model) that has an icon for this and said it was very easy.

Does everyone else have some way to run this application? Is there some way I can?

The icon name is "personal email set up".

I would call AT&T customer service and make sure the device is properly provisioned.

Yea unfortunately I don't have a Blackberry and not at work so I can't grab on.
I forgot to ask, are you able to get on the internet? Can you open the browser and pull a page?

If they are not sure have them put you through to RIM. But if you can't set up your email and can't pull a webpage then your not connected to the network.

Turns out it was my data plan that was the problem.

I went to ATT and had them change me to a BB data plan and a lot of new icons showed up on my phone, new email accounts that i had established online, the whole deal.
